Recording
Echo has three ways to get audio into your library. Whichever you use, the audio is stored encrypted in your library and transcribed on your Mac.
Online meetings
Use the browser extension for Google Meet, Zoom web and Microsoft Teams web.
- Join the meeting in Brave or Chrome as you normally would.
- With the meeting tab selected, open the Echo extension popup.
- Give the recording a title, and choose whether to Include my microphone and Show live text in Echo.
- Tick Participants have consented to recording, then Start recording.
- Pause or Stop & save from the popup. Leaving the call, closing the tab or navigating away also ends the recording.
Echo does not join the call as a bot. It captures the tab’s audio directly, and your microphone only while you are unmuted. The audio is journaled, encrypted, in the browser and uploaded to Echo when it is reachable, so a recording survives Echo being stopped.
Ask for consent. Recording laws differ between places; many require everyone’s agreement.
In-person meetings
In Echo, choose New meeting → In person. Allow microphone access when the browser asks, pick the input device, and record. Keep the Echo tab open while recording. If the browser reports a microphone error, Echo shows what went wrong and lets you start again.
Uploading a recording
Choose Upload a recording on the overview and pick a file. Echo accepts audio files and WebM or MP4 video (it keeps only the audio). Large files upload in chunks and resume if interrupted.
After recording
Open the meeting and choose Create transcript, or turn on Settings → General → Transcribe after recording to start automatically. See transcription models and speakers.
